The FINAL Day

Like the saying “All good things must come to an end”, TARC Green Expo 2011 arrived at its third and final day. Although a little heavy-hearted, we decided to go out with a bang and boy, did we give our very best effort!

Day 3 was a very busy, thoroughly activity-packed Wednesday. We had a product demo/drama from the TLC booth,  T-shirt painting competition from The Dive Label, Bag designing contest by EcoFriend, ‘Greenest Effort Corner’ by GEC, 8Team Cruiser, lucky draws and oh so many more! And of course, we had our closing ceremony as well which went swimmingly. Check out some of the photos that we managed to take:

Phew. Quite a large album of photos we’ve got don’t we? For the full collection on our FB page, click here.

Admittedly the day before we experienced some frustration when the rain and heavy winds toppled some of the booths outside the canteen area and a steady flow of water threatened to flood the area. We were really worried about the damage that had been caused and whether this would affect our ability to function fully on the last day.

However, our worries were but momentary because thanks to the event crew’s quick-thinking and reacting immediately to the weather change, we incurred only minor damage (nothing we could not fix in a snap!) and nobody was injured, which was the most important thing.

The crew quickly transporting equipment out of the weather's reach, successfully saving the booths!

Apart from that, we also watched our icons, mascots and much beloved main characters of TARC Green Expo 2011, The Greenbots, perform their dance for the last time during the closing ceremony.

And so, with everything (almost) wrapped up, we students from APR2 would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been so incredibly supportive of us throughout the entire process of organizing this event.

In particular we would like to thank our adviser, Ms Lim Siz Siz for her patience and guidance. Special thanks also go to our sponsors: A Cut Above Academy, Chua Catering, Chialat Printing, Chewies Delight, The Face Shop and Tristar Digital for helping us make our event a success. And the appreciation does not end there, we are really thankful of the 9 companies who participated in TARC Green Expo 2011 as exhibitors: Lorenzo Peh, BROS, The Dive Label, Truly Loving Company, Global Environment Centre (GEC), Alam Flora, Eclimo, SYABAS and EcoFriend. Last but not least, thank you to all the students, staff and lecturers who visited us at Canteen 2 and contributed in big and small ways.

THANK YOU, from all of us!!!

This event has been a wonderful learning experience for us PR students and we will be sure to carry these valuable lessons with us when we step into the workforce. While we understand that there are certainly things we can improve on, this Green Expo was an excellent platform for us to exercise what we read in textbook and put them to practice.

It has been a tiring but absolutely rewarding past couple of months. So once again, thank YOU for your support and even as TARC Green Expo 2011 draws to an end, we hope that you will always move ‘Towards a Greener Future’.

Second day, twice the fun!

It’s the second day for Green Expo 2011 and things just get better around here! The member from choir started our day with the soothing “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” and created a “Miracle”. The rhythm didn’t just stop here as the beat boxer, Deric continued to amaze the crowd with his awesome beat boxing.

After the music, we brought in fashion by the one-and-only Lorenzo Peh in the “Lorenzo Peh Talk Show” as the trendy ex-TARCian and fashion designer shared his fashion philosophy with the audiences. Students also get to experience the fun of guessing the garment “tailored” with newspapers.

So… what’s next? It was “Trade and BROS up your bottle in this hour!” While testing the students’ IQ, BROS showcased their BPA-free bottles that not only come in wide variety of sizes, but also in attractive and colourful designs. Besides that, students got to purchase BROS bottles with discounts up to 50% just by trading in their old bottles. What a sweet deal!

Excitement never stops in Green Expo 2011 as Peace Teo 张诒博 melted everyone’s heart with his songs. The talented singer showed his support towards the green ideas and had a great time with all the students!

Think that marks the end of activities? Not just yet! Eclimo puts students’ teamwork to the test and showed their cool electric bicycles in “Puzzle with Sense, Ride with Knowledge”. What’s even cooler? Students got to win cash vouchers worth RM4,000!

While everyone was having a great time, the weather gave us a little hiccup with the heavy downpour. However, the green spirit is not at all weakened! Besides, nature grows better with rain right? So does Green Expo 2011! It is our last day tomorrow and we will bring you continuous excitement! Do bring your friends along and let us all move towards a greener future!

Hooray! Green Expo 2011 is finally here!

Green Expo 2011 had a great kick start today in the morning with all the lively performances! Greenbots took flight with the “rocketeer”, students walked the stage in The Dive Label style and Zodiac showed their energetic cheer leading moves .  After the exciting performances, our principal Dr. Tan Chik Heok spent his morning touring the booths, getting awesome green ideas.

The VIPs then had a time off enjoying the “little garden meal” in the gazebo. Take a look at our very own Green Expo 2011 cupcakes by Chewies Delight! Aren’t they cute?

With all ten booths putting their best effort setting up in the past weekend, the canteen 2 foyer definitely look fantastic! What’s best is that all of them are eco-friendly! And of course, events come with fun activities and so does Green Expo 2011. The student initiated group, B Bag Stand had a “BB Stand Showtime”, showcasing the durability and trendiness of the bunting bags through games. Students were asked to guess the weight of the filled bunting bags which can be up to 10kg.

After the BB Stand Showtime, SYABAS took the stage with “Water for Life”, explaining the water treatment processes and showcasing the proven quality of SYABAS treated water through the consumption of tap water in TARCollege. Bravo to SYABAS’ efforts that makes us feel safe and confident with the water quality.

Think you missed the fun? Don’t worry as we have more green yet enjoyable activities and performances coming up tomorrow! Learn how to light up your “green idea bulb” with Green Expo 2011! Don’t forget to join us!

Set-up weekend!

Can you give us a whoop of excitement because TARC Green Expo 2011 is being launched TOMORROW!

It has been (and still is ongoing) a flurry of activity down here at Canteeen 2 foyer as the organizers, students from APR2, scramble to set up their respective booths. It is a race against time over this weekend, as we rush to finish cutting, painting, pasting, stapling, drawing, tying our exhibition items.

Oh, and the amount of materials we are using just to complete our booths would make your jaws drop. Piles upon piles of cardboard, endless stacks of newspapers, cans and plastic bottles make up a grungy and immensely creative carnival of colors! Of course we chose to reuse, reduce and recycle the various materials while setting up for our event. We have to lead by example no? :)

Check out some of the weird, funky and madly creative stuff we made out of recyclables!

Needless to say, having to do so much art and crafts led to a whole lot of rubbish. Therefore, we decided to handle our wastes responsibly and in an eco-friendly way!

At time of writing, progress of our setup is about 67%. There is still quite a fair bit to do but we are pleased with what is already accomplished. When it all come together in completion, we can guarantee that it’s going to be legend-…wait for it…….-dary!

Get a sneak peek of what we have in store for you from 12 Dec (That’s TOMORROW!) until 14 Dec from 9am-5pm.

So make sure you drop by our event. There is so much to see, so much to WIN (hint: Apple products!), and lotsa things you can buy as Christmas gifts! And make sure you come for our launching ceremony on Monday at 10am to catch the lovable Greenbots in action!

TARC Green Expo 2011 is not to be missed! See you there! :)
